Student Life
Our Canes spirit is legend and not just when we are cheering on our five- time
National Champion football
team(GO CANES)! Clubs and organizations run the gamut
from honor societies and a nationally recognized debate team to those promoting the importance of
diversity and altruism.
Our student-run media and entertainment organizations make their mark both on-campus and out in the world, from our Emmy-winning NewsVision program in the School of Communication to Cane Records, the first completely student-run record label in the country.
UM students develop their skills in relating to and leading others through our Leadership Institute and the Butler Volunteer Center, learning to ask themselves, 'What good are ideas that are never put into action?' Our commitment to student development is reflected in UM's selection to the Templeton Foundation's select list of 'character-building institutions'.
Coral Gables is home to a range of fine restaurants, art galleries, live theater groups and a continuous schedule of activities and festivals. The range of career and social opportunities of our namesake city, Miami, helped UM place fifth in the Schools in Great College Towns category in Princeton Review.
